Hello from Nichola Maasdorp No4 Clinic in Elgin, Moray, Scotland! As the seasons change, so do the needs of your skin. Autumn and winter bring cooler temperatures and lower humidity, which can challenge your skin's natural defences. But fret not; we're here to guide you through the best aesthetic and skincare treatments to keep your skin glowing and healthy throughout the colder months.
When it comes to facial aesthetics, Botox is a timeless classic that's suitable year-round. Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for fine lines and wrinkles, creating a smoother appearance. This treatment is a fantastic choice for autumn and winter, as it helps combat the effects of indoor heating and the dry air outside. Plus, with less sun exposure, the results can last longer.
Hydrafacial is a rejuvenating treatment that deeply cleanses, exfoliates, and hydrates the skin. It's particularly beneficial during autumn and winter when the skin tends to become dry and dull. Hydrafacial provides an instant boost of hydration, leaving your skin radiant and more resilient to the harsh weather conditions.
The drop in temperature can lead to a loss of skin elasticity, resulting in sagging skin. Endymed 3D DEEP Skin Tightening is an advanced treatment that uses radiofrequency technology to stimulate collagen production, restoring your skin's firmness and tone. This therapy is ideal for tackling the effects of the colder months and keeping your skin looking vibrant.
Microneedling is a versatile treatment that can address a range of skin concerns, including fine lines, scars, and uneven texture. Xcellaris Pro Skin Microneedling takes this approach to the next level by combining it with powerful exosomes. This combination works exceptionally well in autumn and winter, as it stimulates collagen production, providing your skin with the necessary boost to look its best.
Colder weather can often lead to more time spent indoors and potential changes in your routine. The Emerald Laser for fat reduction offers a non-invasive solution to help you stay in shape. This treatment effectively targets areas of stubborn fat, providing a sculpted appearance.
Dark circles and puffiness around the eyes can be more noticeable during the colder months. Endybleph Skin Resurfacing and Eye Bag Tightening treatments offer precise solutions to rejuvenate the delicate skin around your eyes, making you look more refreshed and youthful.
While sun exposure decreases in autumn and winter, you might still be dealing with the aftermath of the summer months. Formatk Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is an excellent option for treating sunspots, redness, and uneven skin tone. IPL can help you achieve a more even complexion and reverse the effects of sun damage.
At Nichola Maasdorp No4 Clinic, our focus is on a holistic approach to skincare and aesthetics. Whether you're interested in Botox, Hydrafacial, Endymed 3D DEEP Skin Tightening, Xcellaris Pro Skin Microneedling, the Emerald Laser for fat reduction, Endybleph treatments, or Formatk IPL, we're here to provide personalised care to address your unique needs.
Autumn and winter are perfect times to revitalise your skin, undo the effects of summer, and prepare for the holiday season. Let us help you achieve your best skin during this time of the year.

Welcome to the No 4 Clinic in Elgin, where we believe that healthy and radiant skin is within reach for everyone. Today, we're excited to introduce you to the revolutionary Hydrafacial treatment, a cutting-edge skincare procedure that promises to transform your skin and leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. In this article, we'll delve into the top 10 questions about Hydrafacial, addressing everything you need to know about this remarkable treatment.
The Hydrafacial treatment is a non-invasive, multi-step procedure designed to cleanse, exfoliate, extract, and hydrate the skin. It combines the benefits of hydradermabrasion, chemical peels, and automated extractions to provide immediate and long-lasting results. Using a specialized device, the treatment works by delivering a blend of cleansing, moisturising, and nourishing serums to your skin, simultaneously removing impurities and dead skin cells.
Hydrafacial is a versatile treatment suitable for all skin types and addresses various skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, congested pores, acne-prone skin, uneven skin tone, and dryness. Whether you're seeking to combat signs of aging or simply rejuvenate your complexion, a Hydrafacial can be customized to meet your specific needs.
Not at all! Hydrafacial is a painless and soothing treatment. Many individuals find it to be a relaxing experience, similar to a gentle massage for the face. You may experience a mild sensation during the extraction process, but overall, the procedure is well-tolerated and comfortable.
One of the many advantages of Hydrafacial is its efficiency. The treatment typically takes around 30-45 minutes, making it an ideal option for those with busy schedules or anyone seeking a quick pick-me-up for their skin.
Unlike some other more invasive treatments, Hydrafacial has minimal side effects and no downtime. You may experience temporary redness or a slight tingling sensation immediately after the procedure, but these effects typically subside within a few hours. You can immediately resume your daily activities and apply makeup if desired.
The beauty of Hydrafacial lies in its immediate and visible results. You'll notice a significant improvement in your skin's texture, tone, and overall radiance right after the first session. For optimal and long-lasting results, we recommend a series of treatments, as each session builds upon the last. With regular maintenance sessions, your skin's health and appearance can be sustained over time.
The frequency of Hydrafacial treatments depends on your individual skincare goals and the condition of your skin. For most individuals, monthly treatments are recommended to maintain optimal skin health and address specific concerns. However, our skilled professionals at No 4 Clinic will assess your skin during a consultation and tailor a treatment plan that suits your unique needs.
Absolutely! Hydrafacial can be complemented with other skincare procedures to enhance your results. For instance, combining Hydrafacial with LED light therapy, micro-needling, or customized serums can further target specific concerns and maximize the benefits of the treatment.
Hydrafacial is suitable for almost everyone, regardless of age or skin type. Whether you have sensitive skin, oily skin, dry skin, or a combination of these, a Hydrafacial can be tailored to address your specific needs. It's a versatile treatment that can benefit individuals looking to improve their skin's overall health and appearance.

Skin treatments such as Anti-Wrinkle Injections (Botox), fillers, IPL (intense pulsed light), skin tightening and microneedling have become increasingly popular in recent years - and for good reason. These aesthetic treatments can have a positive impact on the appearance and health of your skin.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections (Botox) is an effective treatment for reducing or eliminating wrinkles, fine lines and crow’s feet. It works by paralyzing the muscles that cause facial expressions like smiling and frowning which can add to the development of wrinkles over time. This facial aesthetics treatment is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments in the aesthetic industry.
Fillers are used to enhance the volume of certain areas on the face or body – such as the lips or cheeks – by replenishing lost fat due to ageing. This minimizes signs of ageing like wrinkles and sagging skin. This medical aesthetic treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that can be done quickly, with minimal downtime.
IPL is a non-invasive laser treatment designed to improve skin tone and texture while also reducing redness, sun spots, scars and other blemishes. It works by targeting pigment cells in the surface layers of the skin with intense pulses of light which causes them to break down. This skin rejuvenation treatment is highly effective and requires no downtime.
Skin tightening treatments use radiofrequency waves delivered into the deeper layers of the skin in order to encourage collagen production which boosts the firmness and elasticity of ageing skin – leaving you with a more youthful look! This non-surgical treatment is highly popular among those who want to avoid surgical facelifts.
Microneedling is another effective skin treatment. It involves using tiny needles to puncture the surface of the skin, triggering a healing response from the body which results in increased collagen production. This helps smooth wrinkles and give skin a more even tone, resulting in a healthier, more youthful look. This beauty treatment is highly popular and requires minimal downtime.
These aesthetic treatments can drastically improve not only your appearance but also self-confidence; when you look your best you feel your best. So if you’re looking for a way to refresh your look without resorting to surgery then these treatments could be just what you need!

Do you follow a religious skincare routine that involves using a cleanser for your skin? If you do, then you ought to know that it could be the worst thing you’ve ever done. Look at any skincare brand and you will find that they offer a variety of cleansers claiming to do all sorts. You have to ask, can using a cleanser for your skin really be that complicated? If the rest of your body is fine with soap, why should your face be any different?
Did you know that your skin is actually self-cleansing? Yep, your skin cells are constantly shedding and keeping your skin fresh and supple, but most of all, clean too. The structure of the skin consists of a base layer, above this are several layers of skin cells. As these cells die, they move to the surface, releasing a film-like substance that adds to the natural barrier to protect the skin and prevent it from being damaged by environmental stressors. This includes things such as bacteria, chemicals and UV rays, which all have the potential to damage the skin in some way.
The skin’s natural barrier is essentially the outermost layer of your skin, and is referred to as the stratum corneum. It is often described as a wall as it is notoriously hard for substances to penetrate. It consists of incredibly tough skin cells called corneocytes, which are connected by lipids.
Of course, you should clean your skin but you might want to reevaluate what touches it in the meantime. Modern life means we are surrounded by chemicals and we often come into contact with substances that need to be washed away. Take makeup, for example. Makeup can block pores and cause breakouts if it’s not removed properly. No one wants to wake up with makeup on their pillow in the morning, nor do they want to wake up to spots when they look in the mirror! I hate to say it, but if it’s so bad for your skin that you need to remove it at night, then why would you have it on all day?
Deep cleansing and scrubbing your face can have a negative impact on your skin’s natural defence system, its natural barrier, which is not to be confused with the microbiome. Your microbiome refers to the bacteria that live on the skin, whereas your natural barrier helps to keep potential irritants at bay. Stripping the skin of this protective layer can not only lead to dryness, but conditions such as eczema and rosacea will appear or flare up as a result of this aggravation.
For those who have sensitive or acne-prone skin, a compromised barrier can be an absolute nightmare. If you suffer from one of these conditions, you’ll know that even the smallest change in your diet, environment, or your skincare routine can cause huge problems. Why does this happen? Well, it’s because your skin has become over-sensitised and inflammation has set in. Should this happen to you, it’s incredibly difficult to get it under control again.
Ask any good dermatologist and they will say less is more. Most would prefer you to scale your skincare back, and this advice extends to ingredients too. Introducing too many new ingredients to your skin at one time might cause it to, you guessed it, become dry and irritated! This could lead you to try even more new ingredients or continue to cleanse even more… so the cycle will simply continue forever!
A dermatologist recently told me the same advice she gives her patients - you don’t need to use soap on your entire body in the shower or bath in order to clean yourself. Instead, focus on the areas where you sweat, and if possible, use cream soaps that are approved by dermatologists. It’s pretty radical advice, considering we’re constantly told the opposite by companies who are trying to sell us their products!
So, what if you want to catch the sun? Please, think again! Opt for a tinted sunscreen or a sunscreen and a foundation that’s kind to the skin, like Oxygenetix. It has been specifically designed for those with skin concerns, which means that if you really have to wear makeup, you can, just as long as you remove it with a gentle cleanser.
Remember, you don’t need to double cleanse! Instead, consider investing in advice from a professional, whose job it is to help you with your skin concerns.
Nowadays, there are a plethora of aesthetic doctors, nurses and skin therapists who really know their stuff. They can prescribe a medical skincare regime with the ability to transform your skin. You should avoid any individual who pushes one specific brand. Chances are, they probably have a lot to gain from this. Instead, look for someone who will give you generic advice. By generic, I mean that they should tell you what to look for in skincare and recommend a few basic active ingredients (also known as actives) to start you on your skin journey.
There are two words to watch out for - free consultation. As tempting as it is, this is a BIG red flag! You should expect to pay a consultation fee of anything from £50-£100 from a reputable practice, which ultimately isn’t expensive when you consider all the factors at play. Anyone who performs a thorough skin consultation has to take the time to find out what products you’re using before they look at the ingredients in them and what they are doing to your skin. Then, they will analyse your skin and medical history to determine if any of this information is relevant to your current concerns. They might even take a scan and then spend some time talking you through the next steps of your journey.
Of course, they can make recommendations but that’s a huge part of their job! You need to make sure that any professional you visit incorporates the products you’re using into their new recommendations, unless your current line-up is doing more harm than good.
If I have done my job properly, you might be feeling a bit unnerved about your current skincare routine, but I hope I’ve left you questioning the status quo! Whether you decide to agree with me or not, I hope that you will consider what I have said before you blindly reach for your purse and fork out a fortune for that so-called miracle cleanser for skin.
